v Console manufacturers –
Console manufacturers are the people who create the consoles the games are played on. They help the developers decide what they can put in there games, e.g. graphics, the way they do this is by choosing what graphics card the console has and the gigabytes of RAM the console has. These manufacturers are SONY’s PlayStation 3 and soon to be 4, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and soon to be Xbox One and Nintendo’s Wii, DS and WII U.
v Publishers -
The publishers are the companies in this value chain that help the developers out by financing the development of the game. Not only do they finance the development of the game they also finance the marketing strategy leading up to the games release and anything else that is needed to make the game.
v Developers –
The developers are the team of many people that actually make the game for the publishers to publish. To do this they have to see how powerful the games console they are making the game for is and decide on that how they will build their game, things like map size, graphics, ETC…
v Outsourcing Companies –
Outsourcing companies are like developers they sometimes help developers develop their game, in case the developers can’t do a certain thing whilst the outsourcing company specialises in it. Free lancers that are bought into the project.
v Press & Media -
Press and media is the news of this value chain, they advertise and make people aware about things in this specific area like gaming news and other things related to this subject.
v Distribution & Retail –
Distribution and retail are the shops that get the game and or consoles in to hands of the customer. They order a supply of the game or console and distribute it to the public.
v Mobile platforms –
Mobile platforms are the Apple IPhone and the Android phones that allow games on their system for the owner to play but instead of them playing on a console they can play them on your phone no matter where you are.
v Social networking -
The social network Facebook lets people play games with their friends and these games are addictive and keep people going and playing with their friends for a long time.
